Ten Simple Homemade Preserve-Based Salad Dressings

Ten Simple Homemade Preserve-Based Salad Dressings

I love a good salad. And what makes a salad good (at least in my opinion!) is the dressing you top it with!

We carry some salad dressings here at the Preserve Company that I absolutely love, but I also like to make salad dressings of my own with many of the products that we sell.

Jellies, jams, and marmalades add an interesting flavour to your salad dressings. It's also a great way to use up the last little bit... plus you save a dish by using the jar to mix and store the dressing!

Here are ten different homemade salad dressings for you to try, featuring our preserves:

🍾Raspberry With Champagne Vinaigrette

This is a delicious dressing for a simple mixed greens, arugula, or spinach salad. It's also great with oysters as a mignonette!

Ingredients:

Instructions: Whisk the preserves and vinegar in a bowl, then slowly add the olive oil, continuing to whisk until your dressing is emulsified. Add salt and pepper to taste.

🍊Orange Dijon Dressing

This dressing is perfect with a bag of coleslaw mix and some grilled chicken. It's also yummy with kale based salads.

Ingredients:

Instructions: Combine marmalade, mustard, and apple cider vinegar in a bowl, then whisk in your olive oil until well combined. Add salt and pepper to taste.

🍓Strawberry Grand Marnier Poppy Seed Dressing

Mixed greens or spinach salads are great with this dressing. It would also be lovely on a Waldorf salad or a breakfast fruit salad.

Ingredients:

Instructions: Whisk the preserves and vinegar in a bowl, then slowly add the olive oil, whisking until smooth. Finally, stir in the poppy seeds and add salt and pepper to taste.

🍋Lemon Ginger Marmalade Dressing

If you're craving some Asian-inspired flavours add this dressing to a spinach salad, a noodle salad, or a bowl of mixed greens.

Ingredients:

Instructions: Combine marmalade, ginger, and vinegar in a bowl before whisking in olive oil, until well combined. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

🫐Wild Blueberry Balsamic Dressing

This is another great dressing option for a green salad, whether you choose mixed greens, arugula, or spinach.

Ingredients:

Instructions: Whisk preserves and vinegar in a bowl. Slowly drizzle in the olive oil, whisking continuously until the dressing is smooth and emulsified. Add salt and pepper to your liking.

🍒Very Berry Cherry Chipotle Dressing

This dressing adds a lovely smoky, sweet flavour to kale salads. It's also delicious on a grilled chicken salad.

Ingredients:

Instructions: Whisk preserves, adobo sauce, and vinegar in a bowl. Slowly whisk in the olive oil until emulsified. Season with salt and pepper.

🍑Peach Basil Dressing

Try this flavourful dressing on a bed of greens with barbecued chicken.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup Peach Salsa
  • 1/4 cup white wine vinegar
  • 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions: Stir peach salsa and white wine vinegar together before gradually adding the olive oil. Whisk, continuously, until the dressing is emulsified. Stir in the basil and season with salt and pepper.

🍎Blackberry Apple Pie Dressing

This is a perfect dressing for a big bowl of greens with nuts, diced apples, and berries.

Ingredients:

Instructions: Combine preserves and lemon juice in a bowl. Slowly whisk in the olive oil until emulsified. Stir in lemon zest and season with cinnamon, salt, and pepper.

🌶️Red Pepper Jelly Vinaigrette

A great sweet and spicy dressing for your mixed greens. Delicious with chicken, veggies, or shrimp!

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup Red Pepper Jelly
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 small clove of garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper
Instructions: Whisk jelly, vinegar, and garlic together before adding the olive oil. Whisk continuously until you have a smooth dressing. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

🥭Spicy Mango Garlic Dressing

This recipe is technically not totally homemade, because it uses a jar of our Garlic Mango Dressing. But I've made it my own, so I think that counts!

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup Garlic and Mango Dressing
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, finely chopped
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha sauce (or to taste)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

Whisk the dressing, cilantro, lime juice, and sriracha until well combined, then season with salt and pepper to taste. I love this dressing poured over a bowl of coleslaw mix, served with fish tacos. YUM!

Hopefully these recipes give you some inspiration to try making some salad dressings of your own. Enjoy!

This is genius. I love a vinegrette that has both tang and sweet. Haven’t tried any yet, but might just for company dinner tonight, on a salad with spinach, romaine and mandarin orange chunks, maybe a little feta. Now…..which one?
