Living Intentionally, Caring for Others, and Fresh Air

Last Sunday was such a wonderful day in our restaurant with hundreds of guests joining us for celebratory Mother’s Day meals. Thank you. I am beyond proud of our team for handling so many people graciously.

Our restaurant is now officially open for the season! Open daily 9-4, serving breakfast & lunch until Father’s Day, then our hours will be 8:30 to 8 with the addition of our dinner menu.  We start our season with a smaller menu and here it is. Starting Breakfast and Lunch Menu.

This time of year is so joyous as we welcome visitors from around the world to our property. It is such an honour to be a stop on someone’s journey.

We’re still experiencing frost here on the Island, so no annuals or seeds going in the ground yet. If you are around the next few weeks, we have split and potted some perennials for sale. All funds go to help us with the cost of running the Gardens of Hope. And a thank you goes out to all supporters who have helped us with the sunroom addition currently being added to the Gardens of Hope Respite Cottage.

I love early mornings, the fresh air offerings, the sounds of birds waking up and singing to a rising sun while watching it cracking the horizon.

Trying to live more intentional, I decided to make a cup of tea and sit outside to watch the sunrise each day. What a treat. I took this photo May 18, 2018, at 5:43 am. May I suggest you "google" the sunrise time in your area and set the alarm to ensure you are there to greet the new day dawning.

“What breaks in daybreak? Is it the night? Is it the sun, cracked in two by the horizon like an egg, spilling out light?” ― Margaret Atwood

I read a beautiful story today of incarcerated men who became caregivers to fellow convicts in a Californian prison hospice centre. Read here.

This is a long holiday weekend in Canada. Monday marks Victoria Day. Many Islanders will be spending time outdoors getting their gardening done, cooking meals on the BBQ, and enjoying picnics with their families. How do you like to spend a long spring weekend?

I am curious to know if you were an early riser and watched the Royal Wedding this morning between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle!

The quote I am contemplating this week.

“The present moment holds infinite riches beyond your wildest dreams but you will only enjoy them to the extent of your faith and love. The more a soul loves, the more it longs, the more it hopes, the more it finds.” ~ Jean-Pierre de Caussade

Wishing you a wonderful weekend with love from Prince Edward Island!

Sincerely,

Bruce

Thank you Bruce for sharing a beautiful sunrise photo! I live in New Brunswick but I love PEI, and The Preserve Company is always one of my stops when I visit. I especially enjoy Orange jam with Chivas Regale and Strawberry with Champagne. I was also up early to watch the Royal Wedding, complete with your jam on biscuits and a proper cup of tea! I enjoy your thoughtful blog and appreciate your continual search for the best products to share with us :-) Next time I’m over, maybe we can share a pot of your delicious tea!

I too am from the Maritimes, Nova Scotia, return each summer for a visit with my brother. Have not been to PEI for many years but dearly love it. Your blog is a treat. Wonderful Margaret Atwood poem quote. One of her life long friends prefers her poetry. Your restaurant menu is very tempting. Yes, I rose early for the Royal Wedding, great fun. Very best wishes.

What a delight to read your posts. Yes, I got up to watch the royal wedding. What a joy! As I said to my daughter, “I got up to see Charles and Diana marry, then rose early to watch her funeral service. I must see this one too.”
It has been quite a few years since I traveled with a group to the Island and visited your shop, but wonderful memories linger from that visit. I hope that I might some day be able to come again.

Enjoyed our lunch at the Island Preserve—it was excellent. Bought our teas for home . A great start for the holiday weekend.

Bruce, your blog is a gem. We visited you and your lovely Preserve Co from California last summer. What a memorable trip we had. Your photos are magnificent———-they certainly make us all think about the blessings that our world surrounds us with on a daily basis. Your kind and generous heart always inspires us to do more for others. May you always be richly blessed for what you do.

I enjoy your blog very much. I am from the Maritime Province and each time we go back home for a visit, P.E.I. is on our list to stay a few days. We never leave before a visit to the Preserve Co. for a breakfast and a lunch meal and finishing it off with your Raspberry pie.

Always enjoy reading your blog as it brings me back to the Maritime Provinces and my childhood! Your sunrise photo makes me happy and I am sure you also take photos of the Northern Lights as well. Mother Nature can bring out the best of her surroundings. Had hoped to make my pilgrimage to the Maritimes during May before the major tourist travel begins but that just won’t happen due to other things going on. Now it looks like July 1 time frame. No problem – love returning HOME no matter what time of the year. Continue enjoying those sunrises! JLB
