Help for Extroverts, Humour and Tree Hugging, Why do You Ask, Son?

Help for Extroverts, Humour and Tree Hugging, Why do You Ask, Son?

Good Morning from Prince Edward Island,

The sun is up, and it is a new day. I hope this finds you well.

Time to put on the kettle. Make it a strong cuppa...it is 6:28 am, and we just got in from the cool, fresh air.

Well, it certainly is interesting times. Our provincial government has declared a state of emergency. It might seem crazy, but it gives them more power to control the entry points to our Island. Currently, we have 25 cases of COVID-19 on Prince Edward Island. All are at home, and all are travel related. Everyone is doing their part to control this virus from wreaking more havoc on the lives of those who are part of this beautiful Island community.

If you work on the front-lines of this, please accept this ghost hug! When this is over, there should be a massive parade celebrating those who are sacrificing so much to protect, save, and feed us.

I am starting to feel stress. I usually handle lots of stress, and my doctor is always amazed at my blood pressure. For the first time that I can remember, my blood pressure is up and find myself affected emotionally. So I set about doing things to entertain myself, started making cookies and cooking more. I have enjoyed that and should be happy with the ballooning tire around my waist. LOL

As an extrovert, I miss people. I look forward to seeing our staff again and hopefully; we will see some customers too.

I enjoyed reading this story in the Washington Post. Jelena Kecmanovic wrote the story. Jelena is a founding director of the Arlington/DC Behavior Therapy Institute and an adjunct professor of psychology at Georgetown University.

I found it helpful in giving good suggestions. Click the link to read the story. Quarantine survival tips for extroverts and perfectionists — and those who live with them.

What I also find weird, is that I was on fire to read books this year, 20 books for 2020, I am stalled at number 8. It seems now I am too restless to read. I have set a goal of going kayaking soon. This weekend I am going to find a tree in a forest to hug.

"When you hug a tree, you feel it first in your toes and then up your legs and into your chest and then up into your head," enthuses forest ranger Þór Þorfinnsson. "It's such a wonderful feeling of relaxation, and then you're ready for a new day and new challenges."

The Icelandic Forestry Service is encouraging people to hug trees. Icelandic story here.

Extroverts need humour, and one of our readers from California sent a list of one-liners this week. Bless your heart, Suzi!

Time for a Smile!

2019: Stay away from negative people. 2020: Stay away from positive people.

The world has turned upside down. Old folks are sneaking out of the house, and their kids are yelling at them to stay indoors!

Do you think it's bad now? In 20 years our country will be run by people homeschooled by day drinkers…

This virus has done what no woman had been able to do…cancel all sports, shut down all bars, and keep men at home!!!

Do not call the police on suspicious people in your neighbourhood! Those are your neighbours without makeup and hair extensions!

Since we can't eat out, now's the perfect time to eat better, get fit, and stay healthy. We're quarantined! Who are we trying to impress? We have snacks; we have sweatpants – I say we use them!

Day 7 at home and the dog is looking at me like, "See? This is why I chew the furniture!"

Does anyone know if we can take showers yet or should we just keep washing our hands???

Me: Alexa, what's the weather this weekend?
Alexa: It doesn't matter – you're not going anywhere.

I swear my fridge just said, "what the hell do you want now?"

Quarantine has turned us into dogs. We roam the house all day looking for food. We are told "no" if we get too close to strangers. And we get really excited about car rides.

Where ever you are or whatever you do remember:

Smiling is contagious; you can catch it like the flu.

When someone smiled at me today, I started smiling too.

I walked around the corner, and someone saw my grin

And when he smiled, I realized I'd passed it on to him.

I thought about that smile. Then I realized its worth -

A single smile just like mine could travel round the earth.

So if you feel a smile begin, don't leave it undetected

Start an epidemic, quick, and get the world infected.

Big thank you to Jeremy and Sian for keeping our online store going handling lots of orders coming in. Thank you for Darlene coming in the bakery back door and baking up a cookie storm for our Mother's Day gift boxes.

Thank you for our new and our loyal customers.

On that note, we have made some changes to our loyalty program. The system we were using was not doing all that we needed it to, so we have made a change.

If you are an account holder and have acquired the points, you can now receive a discount on every order.

From 5% to 20% by using the sliding scale, and it shows the points that are redeemed to receive the discount. The good news is there is no email sent with coupon code, which caused a lot of confusion for folks. The coupon code will be right there at checkout.

A few weeks back, we shared this video and asked for folks to send in captions.

Voting day is here. Here is the survey, please vote. Read them all, which one makes you smile the most and choose it. Scroll down to the bottom and hit submit. Please and thank you. I will be in touch with the winner.

I have been listening to the cellist, Luka Suklic, Vivaldi The Four Season

Sample Listen Here.

I hope you have a nice weekend and all is well in your world.

Take care of each other.

With love from PRicne Edward Island,

Bruce & Mille

Son: Why is my sister's name Paris?

Dad: Because we conceived her in Paris.

Son: Thanks, Dad.

Dad: No problem Quarantine.

Hi Bruce, thanks so much for this post! As an introvert I’m doing fairly well staying close to home and physical distancing AND I also miss warm hugs, so I am feeling the stress effects of the isolation too. Thank you for the mixed bag of content that always soothes my soul while injecting needed humour.

I have never seen birds fighting over a stick before!
I wonder if that is a rare sight or not. Fun that it was captured on video.
I am sending you an order for my quarantined families. My kids who
are quarantined.
Those conceived this year will be called quaranteens in 2033.

Hi Bruce,
I’ve just spent the last ten minutes chuckling over Suzi’s one-liners shared in the blog today…. and then another ten reading them out loud to my hublet! Thank you both…. I needed a good laugh today. Like you, Bruce, I’ve been finding it all a little more stress inducing of late and difficult to focus on reading (which I usually relish having time for!). Looking forward to the “One World – Staying at Home” initiative tonight. Stay safe and be well, everyone. We WILL get through this together – and with Bruce’s Blog…. “Tree Huggers Unite!”
Susan.
P.S. And, yes, thanks to Jeremy and Sian too – the butter shortbread and lime curd were a life-saver last week :)

Hello! Here in Ohio we have a glorious sunny day. Only 38* right now but the sun is out. Funny you posted about listening to a cellist. I have been listening to Hauser. I like listening to him.
I will have to see what the mother options are in your shop!
Always wonderful to read your blogs.
