The Art of the Last Minute Gathering
It is summer on PEI, which means there is always a reason to entertain or head over to someone else's gathering. I am all for simplicity over chaos, and perfection is not really one of my kitchen goals if I am being honest. I love that the food is always amazing but does not need to be fancy in the summer. I could honestly live on appetizers and our bbq for the whole season.
That is exactly the role our Entertainer Box plays in my house.

Why I Keep One On Hand
It is not just a gift box, though it makes a really lovely one. For me it is more like a little insurance policy tucked in the pantry. When the doorbell rings and you have twenty minutes to pull something together, having a few Jamazing products on hand means you are never starting from zero. You are starting from something already delicious, and just deciding how to dress it up.
That is the real trick to easy hosting. You do not need twelve ingredients and a plan. You need two or three things that already taste incredible, and a little bit of imagination for what else they can do beyond the jar.
More Ways To Use What Is Already In Your Pantry
Here is where it gets fun, because most of these products are quietly doing double duty in my kitchen and most people have no idea.
1. Chowder Mix. Everyone knows this one for chowder, but it makes a fantastic compound butter for corn on the cob, steak, or roasted veggies. Stir in 2 tbsp into1 cup of softened butter and let it sit in fridge for an hour before your guests arrive. It also works beautifully whisked into a bread dipping oil, or folded into egg bites for a next morning brunch.
2. Red Pepper Jelly. This is the unsung hero of a charcuterie board, especially paired with a soft cheese and a few slices of prosciutto. But do not stop there. It makes a gourmet grilled cheese feel like something from a restaurant menu, and a spoonful on a burger changes the whole experience.
3. Dip Mix. Obviously it makes a great dip, that part is not a secret. What people forget is how well it elevates a tuna salad or chicken salad into something you would actually serve to company instead of just eating over the sink.
4. Cherry Salsa. You have heard me talk about this one over and over again, and I am not going to stop now because it is that good. Mix it with a cranberry pepper Boursin and serve it with nacho chips. It disappears within minutes of hitting the table, every single time.
5. Apple Cranberry Preserves. This one has range. Bake it over a wheel of brie with some walnuts for a warm appetizer that looks far more complicated than it is. Or go the lighter route with yogurt cheese on crostini, topped with a little fresh basil.
6. Cherry Amaretto Preserves. Full confession, I have made my first pavlova this week as I was preparing for this blog! Grab your favorite pavlova recipe, top it with whipped cream, dollop the preserves over top, and finish with some chopped toasted almonds. I am so proud of my cherry amaretto pavlova!! It was high five worthy!

The Real Point of the Box
None of this is about being a perfect host. It is about being a ready one. The Entertainer Box just means that when life hands you a last minute gathering, whether you are the one hosting or the one showing up with something in hand, you already have a few things that make you look like you planned this all along.
Keep one in your own pantry for those weeks when you know you will need it. Or wrap one up for the friend who is always the one dropping by with wine and no snacks. Either way, it takes the pressure off and puts a little more joy back into the actual gathering part, which is the whole point anyway.
Lots of Love,
Marsha
