What’s Your One Thing + Mastering the Slow Read + Grandparents Dilemma

Good Morning from Prince Edward Island,

Sunrise 6:52 September 5,2020

Thank you for the invite in. Is the kettle ready? Let's have a cuppa...

I finished The Library Book yesterday. Whoohooo #10 here I come. I enjoyed the book, and I love Susan Orlean's writing. One of my favourite sentences was:

"Beyond that was all uncertainty, the way life almost always is. It would remain a story without end, like a suspended chord in the last measure of a song-that singular, dissonant, open sound that makes you ache to hear something more."

Anyone interested in having me send them The Library Book, by Susan Orlean, please leave a comment. Once the draw is made, and the name chosen, I will reach out for your address. Once I have the address, I will happily send it to you.

Being able to move my brain from busy-ness to focused reading is a challenging task for me. But a pleasurable challenge. One I will master.

I enjoyed this Ted Talk by Jacqueline Woodson, an American writer of books for children and adolescents. She is best known for Miracle's Boys, and her Newbery Honor-winning titles Brown Girl Dreaming, After Tupac and D Foster, Feathers, and Show Way.

So now, I move on to number 10 of 20 for my 2020 book reading adventure.

Now on book #10.

I recently heard Gary Keller interviewed, and I was intrigued by what he had to say. He spoke to a lot of frustrations that I experience. His wisdom came through the words spoken and intrigued me enough to look into his writings.

So book number 10 is The One Thing by Gary Keller.

From the inside cover flap...

YOU WANT LESS.

You want fewer distractions and less on your plate. The daily barrage of e-mails, texts, tweets, messages, and meetings distract you and stress you out. The simultaneous demands of work and family are taking a toll. And what's the cost? Second-rate work, missed deadlines, smaller paychecks, fewer promotions--and lots of stress.

AND YOU WANT MORE.

You want more productivity from your work. More income for a better lifestyle. You want more satisfaction from life, and more time for yourself, your family, and your friends.

NOW YOU CAN HAVE BOTH--LESS AND MORE.

In The ONE Thing, you'll learn to * cut through the clutter * achieve better results in less time * build momentum toward your goal* dial down the stress * overcome that overwhelmed feeling * revive your energy * stay on track * master what matters to you The ONE Thing delivers extraordinary results in every area of your life--work, personal, family, and spiritual.

WHAT'S YOUR ONE THING?

I look forward to starting the book today.

"It is not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste a lot of it. Life is long enough, and a sufficiently generous amount has been given to us for the highest achievements if it were all well invested. But when it is wasted in heedless luxury and spent on no good activity, we are forced at last by death's final constraint to realize that it has passed away before we knew it was passing. So it is: we are not given a short life but we make it short, and we are not ill-supplied but wasteful of it… Life is long if you know how to use it." ~ Seneca

Shirley and I went for a swim at Covehead Beach yesterday. It was a refreshing dunk in the ocean. Interestingly, I watched a seagull fly very near me overhead with a small lobster flapping while being held in the grips of the gull's beak—the circle of life. And anyone with a dermatological need to have the first layer of the skin removed would have enjoyed the wind. LOL

"A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person." - Mignon McLaughlin

Over the last few weeks, Adrienne Klassen, our baker and Katherine MacLaine, our graphic designer/photographer, have teamed up to work together on creating wonderful fun recipes using our products. The laughter these two enjoy together can be heard throughout the village. (OK, that was a little poetic license.)

Be sure to follow on us on Instagram or take a peek at what they are up to on our recipe blog. Every few days, we post new items.

One of my favourite songs...

Have a WONDER-FULL weekend!

With Love from Prince Edward Island,

Bruce & Millie

ps.

My wife said that my granddaughter has me wrapped around her little finger.

I said, "That's not true. I said 'no' to her just yesterday."

"What did she ask you?"

"She asked me if there was anything I wouldn't give her."

Hi Bruce

I’m also on a reading quest to keep my sanity during quarantine!

I read an interesting book titled Do Nothing by Celeste Headlee. Have you read it?

It’s quite interesting to read Ns. Headlee’s take on why people in this day and age of technology are driven to work harder and longer hours each day when technology should allow us to work more efficiently and require shorter work days.

Take care Bruce!

This is lovely.

Thank you Bruce. I needed to read this today. Not only did my beloved father pass away recently but we were supposed to leave for our PEI vacation this very morning. This has been quite the ride for the year and I hope change for the better is coming next year. Thank you for a brief glimpse of your beautiful island and your uplifting words.
